Common use

Zytanix tablets is used to treat fluid retention (edema) caused by heart failure, kidney disease, or liver conditions, and also to manage high blood pressure. It contains metolazone, a diuretic that boosts the kidneys’ removal of salt and water, reducing swelling and lowering blood pressure. This medicine can also be employed in managing high blood pressure, thereby reducing the risk of heart disease and strokes. It is beneficial in conditions where the body retains more water than it needs, such as in liver cirrhosis and some kidney disorders.

Dosage and direction

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Avoid breaking, crushing, or chewing the tablet. Always take the medicine at the same time each day for best results. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better.

Precautions

Zytanix is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation unless recommended by your doctor. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Patients with liver disease, kidney dysfunction, untreated mineral imbalance, gout, or lupus erythematosus should exercise caution when taking Zytanix. This medicine might increase uric acid levels, potentially triggering a gout attack in susceptible individuals. Diabetic patients should monitor their blood sugar levels closely while using Zytanix.

Contraindications

Zytanix is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Metolazone or other components. It is also contraindicated in patients with anuria, a condition where the kidneys fail to produce urine.

Possible side effect

Zytanix tablets may cause the following side effects: Nausea; Weakness; Dizziness.

Drug interaction

Antihypertensives: Using Zytanix tablets with medicines like lisinopril or amlodipine can increase the risk of low blood pressure (hypotension).
Diuretics: If taken with furosemide or hydrochlorothiazide, Zytanix may amplify their diuretic effect, resulting in excessive loss of water from the body.
Anti-diabetic medicines: The diuretic effect of Zytanix can affect your blood glucose levels, potentially reducing the effectiveness of anti-diabetic medicines like metformin.
Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs): Medicines such as ibuprofen and naproxen may reduce the diuretic and blood pressure-lowering effects of Zytanix tablets when taken together.

Missed dose

If you forget to take Zytanix at the scheduled time, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's time for your next dose, stick to your regular schedule and skip the missed one. Never adjust the dosage without speaking to your doctor.

Overdose

If you accidentally take more Zytanix tablets than prescribed, you might experience symptoms like dizziness or fainting due to low blood pressure. If these symptoms persist, inform your doctor.

Storage

Keep your Zytanix tablets in its original packaging to protect it from moisture. Store the medicine at room temperature, ideally below 30 degrees Celsius. Do not expose the tablet to direct sunlight. Always keep this medication out of reach of children.
